March at KAS: Spring Boat Lifts, Precision Hiab Installs, and a New Fleet Member
As the days lengthen and we welcome the first signs of spring in the Southwest, the KAS Crane and Hiab Hire team has been busy across Devon and the surrounding areas. March is always a transitional month for us; while our core construction and infrastructure work continues, the arrival of spring signals the start of the maritime season.
From the historic canals of Tiverton to the rugged coastline of Ilfracombe, here is a look at what we have been up to over the last few weeks.
Lifting Into the New Season: Maritime Services
With the tourist season just around the corner, we have been helping local boat operators get back into the water.
In Tiverton, we were pleased to assist the Tiverton Canal Co with the return of the ‘Tivertonian’ horse-drawn barge. It is always a pleasure to work on the Grand Western Canal, and seeing this piece of living heritage safely back in the water is a highlight for our team.
Similarly, we headed to the North Devon coast for the lift of the Ilfracombe Princess. Our operators ensured she was moved back into Ilfracombe harbour with total precision, ready for her upcoming coastal cruises.

Whether it is a canal barge or a sea-going vessel, our contract lifting options ensure these seasonal transitions happen safely and efficiently.
Precision Engineering: 110-Tonne Hiab Cabin Installation
It is not just boats that require a delicate touch. This month, our experienced team utilised our 110-tonne Hiab for a particularly challenging internal project.
We were tasked with installing a cabin office inside an existing building. To ensure minimal disruption to the client’s weekday site operations, we carried out the lift over the weekend. Using the Hiab lorry loader allowed us to navigate the tight constraints of the building interior, proving that even with heavy-duty machinery, precision is everything.

Fleet Expansion: Welcoming the Fassi 905
We are committed to providing the best equipment for our customers in the Southwest, which is why we are thrilled to announce a new addition to the KAS fleet.

We recently took delivery of a beautiful new Fassi 905 crane, sourced from Macs Truck Sales. The Fassi 905 is a powerhouse in the industry, known for its incredible reliability and lifting capacity. This new crane truck is already out on the road, ready to tackle heavy lifting tasks for our construction and industrial partners.

Expanding our fleet allows us to maintain our reputation as crane hire professionals who can handle any job, regardless of scale.
A Note of Thanks from Tiverton Canal Co
We were touched to receive such a warm testimonial from Dave and Becky at the Tiverton Canal Co following the Tivertonian lift. They shared:
“This afternoon, Tivertonian was lifted back into the water by KAS Crane Hire Ltd. They are a fantastic family-run company, that are always so professional and knowledgeable in everything they do… we would like to say a massive thank you to KAS.”
As a family-run business ourselves, these kind words mean a lot. You can read more of our client testimonials here.

As we move into April, our schedule is filling up fast. If you have an upcoming project—whether it is forklift hire, a CPA contract lift, or general crane hire—please do get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
